Post election thoughts

November 10, 2008

Like many across the country, I was in awe as the election results poured in knowing that a black man would be elected president of the United States for the first time in history.  Especially considering the race relations this country has been embroiled in over her lifetime, this is really quite an achievement.

This is where my warm fuzzy feelings end.  President-elect Barack Obama appears to be the most radically pro-abortion elected official to ever reside in the White House.  This is what Barack Obama believes:

  • Given the scientific facts of when human life begins – deciding when babies deserve human rights is above his “pay grade”
  • Views babies conceived by unwed mothers as punishments and mistakes
  • abortion is a fundamental freedom
  • we should teach kindergartners sex education in public schools
  • we shouldn’t coerce doctors into providing life saving treatment to babies who have survived an attempt on their lives via abortion

Two of the first pieces of legislature he is salivating to sign are the Freedom of Choice Act and the Prevention First Act.  These two bills would officially write into U.S. law the right to abortion through all nine months of pregnancy, in all 50 states for any reason what-so-ever.  This bill would effectively nullify all state and federal limitations on abortion including parental notification.  The Prevention First Act will use our tax dollars to fund proven failed so-called “comprehensive sex-education” programs nationwide.  With a pro-abortion Nancy Pelosi and a pro-abortion Henry Reid running the roost in Washington, D.C. this could happen very quickly.

Finally, one of my main worries in all of this is who he would nominate to the U.S. Supreme Court and other federal benches.  These non-elected officials will have devastating  consequences for generations.

We know this isn’t a referendum on abortion as many would like to think it is.  This election was a referendum on a certain political party that has failed many on all sorts of issues.

This morning as I was driving to the office I followed a van briefly that had two bumper stickers on it; “Real men love Jesus” and “Pro-family, Pro-Obama.”  I believe this sums up the election.  How can men and women who claim to love Jesus vote for a man who is ardently an abortion advocate?  Unfortunately in this election many did, and this is shameful.  Followers of Jesus should not be leaving their consciences and their Bibles at the voting booth!  Unfortunately, it looks like enough did just that.

So don’t be down.  We know that God reigns supreme and He can, and wants to do good things even in the midst of such dire circumstances.  It does not matter who is occupying the White House.  God wants us to defend the most defenseless amongst us and can and wants to use us mightily for His work.

So let me encourage you.  Keep up the good fight.  Pray harder.  Give more of your time educating your peers about the truths of abortion and educating them on the importance of transferring those beliefs into grassroots activism like voting.  Encourage your peers to live lives of chastity and respect for yourselves and others around you.

I am pledging to not only keep up the fight, but to fight even harder.  Will you join me?

Erik Whittington

Director, Rock for Life

In the Oct. 17 issue of the RFL Report we issued a call to join us in Washington, D.C. January 20 as all eyes will be on the inauguration of the new president.  This is a perfect time to be a visible pro-life witness for the babies and to pray for the future of our nation.  We are excited to see this now gaining momentum as other pro-life youth organizations will be joining us – Stand True, Students for Life of America and Survivors.  So mark your calendars and get ready to be there.  More details to follow so stay tuned!

Jack Black, Ed Harris and other entertainers supporting abortion

Just found this, a YouTube video of Jack Black, Ed Harris and other entertainers advocating for abortion.  Very sad.  Jack Black isn’t very funny any longer….

If the YouTube video isn’t embedded you can check it out here.

The election will not change a thing

October 17, 2008

For those of you not living under a rock, you know that the U.S. is about to elect a new president on November 4th. Abortion has been a big issue in the campaign, but that leads us to worry that many Americans are viewing it as just that – an issue. Abortion is not just an issue, and its not just a talking point; its not just a way to score votes, and its not a way to raise money. Abortion is the intentional and violent ending of an innocent human person’s life, and we MUST remember that.

Rock for Life is not endorsing or supporting any candidate in the presidential election, but we can guarantee you one thing – regardless who wins, we will not change our mission or tactics. We will continue to activate pro-life youth, aid them in educating their peers, mobilize a devoted movement of passionate and life-affirming young people, and equip them with the tools and knowledge they need to permanently and positively affect their generation. Our goal is total personhood and equality for preborn human beings, and that remains unchanged.

With this, Rock for Life is issuing a call for pro-life organizations and individuals to make plans for massive pro-life visibility at the presidential inauguration on January 20th in Washington, D.C. The world’s media will be focused on Washington, D.C. that day, and we fully intend on showing the world that the pro-life advocates of America WILL NOT let presidential politics affect the direction of our movement. Our movement is growing, we are gaining ground, and we will continue to change hearts and minds. Rock for Life activists were a visible witness for life at the 2005 Inauguration, and held a protest at the White House to remind President Bush that pro-life activists would not remain complacent.

Let me know if you can make it or if you can support these efforts with your prayers or financial support. And make sure to leave your own thoughts here on the RFL blog.

Timberlake and Biel support abortion

October 15, 2008

Today I released this statement to the press:

Washington, D.C. (14 October 2008) – Rock for Life added former boy-band-heartthrob and hip-hop-celebrity Justin Timberlake to its boycott list Oct. 14. Timberlake and his girlfriend, actress Jessica Biel, defended abortion access at a rally in Las Vegas Oct. 11.

“Nobody should be able to say what you can do with your body,” Biel told cheering crowds at Last Chance for Change – a rally endorsing presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama. “I give Jess the right to choose where we go to eat all the time,” Timberlake added.

“Timberlake and Biel’s defense of abortion is one of the most incoherent arguments I’ve ever heard,” said Erik Whittington, national director of Rock for Life, a project of American Life League. “I would expect that rationale from a child brainwashed by their abortion-advocating parents. No wonder most Americans ignore Hollywood politics.”

Rock for Life added Timberlake to the boycott list not only for this support for abortion, but also for the twisted logic used to justify his stance.

“What an outrageous excuse for advocating the slaughter of over 3,500 babies a day by abortion in the U.S. alone,” Whittington said. “Where you go to dinner is a legitimate choice, but abortion leaves no choice for your dead child.”

Rock for Life, a project of American Life League, is directed by Erik Whittington and works with hundreds of bands and thousands of pro-life youth who advocate for life using music to engage, educate and equip our culture.  “LIFE. Not for judgment, not for control, but for a better world.”

You can read about Justin and Jessica’s statements at the rally here and watch the YouTube clips here and here.

Let me know what you think.
